Combat Stress were very fortunate to be short listed for this years Endurance Fundraiser of the year based off the Enduro214 in August 2023 where Sip completed all 214 Wainwrights in one non-stop round remaining in the mountains for 26 days. The event was held at the Round House in London where eventually eight finalists would be crowned having raised a combined £16 million for charity. It was amazing to be celebrating what people can achieve inspired by love, driven by loss, or powered by nothing other than good old human solidarity and the innate desire to leave this world just a little better than it was when you found it.
Unfortunately Combat Stress did not win the top prize, however, to have been nominated in the first place and then short listed from 17,000 entries to just 24 finalists is an achievement in itself. Sip was accompanied by one of his best friends Geoff who is still a serving Lieutenant Colonel and who supported Sip during Day 18 of the Enduro214 when Storm Darragh hit with over 100kph winds on the summit of Helvellyn, not a place to be at 950m above sea level! And Rob Marsh the 2IC of Combat Stress, who sat between the world-famous athlete Fatima Whitbread and the best-selling author and International Book of Honour award winner, Gina Gardiner who is also supporting Fatima with her charity campaign.
Sip was quoted in stating, "I hope I have done Combat Stress proud, we may not have won but hopefully everyone who attended now has a better understanding of the incredible work they are doing to support the military and veteran community. Having recently lost my wife to suicide, a veteran herself, it is so important we don’t lose any veteran in the safety of their own home and this is what Combat Stress are striving to ensure."
Next year Sip will be attempting to complete the Enduro3, a world first, by solo paddling the entire Great Glenn from Fort William across the entirety of Scotland to Inverness, a distance of 125 km. He will then turn back and bike to the start point and then turn around and run all the way to Inverness. This will be done non-stop with no sleep or rest, once again to raise the profile, and hopefully some money for Combat Stress. Training starts in the New Year and the event is due to commence on 2nd August 2025.
Finally, and potentially his last Enduro event will be the Enduro282 in 2026 where he will attempt to complete all the Munros in one sitting! Stay tuned to find out more about both upcoming events.
